Together, we’ll take a look at the new features in Drupal 8, the different performance configuration settings available, and how they affect the site as a whole. We’ll discuss how to develop a performance strategy that includes a performance budget with benchmarks you can use to measure your current site and find where you can improve. Finally, we’ll look at different approaches and techniques for front-end design and coding that can yield significant speed improvements across the board. Course learning objectives: Develop a performance strategy for your site, including a performance budget Understand the difference between frontend and backend performance Use automated tools to facilitate frontend performance optimization Explore techniques for image optimization and font loading management Understand and use the Drupal Core performance settings Understand the basic PHP/Drupal execution flow Understand and configure the different types of caching in Drupal and some popular contributed modules Implement alternative caching backends like Memcache and Redis Discuss Varnish and other external caching mechanisms like CDNs and how they can benefit your site
